The client, Aligning Science Across Parkinson's (ASAP), aims to accelerate discovery for Parkinson's disease by fostering collaboration, promoting open science practices, and sharing resources and data across their global network. With over 1000 individuals currently on the platform, the ASAP Hub is YLD's biggest open-source project in the science field to date.
The Challenge
YLD was tasked to develop and build a new type of collaboration platform to support the Parkinson's scientific research community that did not previously exist. The success of the CRN (Collaboration Research Network) Hub has now resulted in YLD building another platform, the Global Parkinson's Genetics Program (GP2) Hub for ASAP as well.
These platforms will allow scientists to safely share research and insights in a completely new way, early and often. The objective is to foster innovation and yield new experimental approaches using an “open science” approach.
Solution & Results
YLD brings digital services to the ASAP organisation through its work and approach. Using a User Centric product development process, decisions are based on qualitative and quantitative insights and metrics aligned with ASAP’s goals as an organisation.
Through its work, YLD has:
- Introduced a more agile way of working with iterative cycles, continuous releases and ongoing testing and user research;
- Established a technical benchmark for any future engineering efforts, and brought open source code to ASAP;
- Created a cohesive and scalable design language through the introduction of a robust Design System.
YLD’s efforts allowed ASAP to explore new approaches to fostering collaborative and open environments, which are central to their mission of “accelerating the pace of discovery and informing the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease through collaboration, research-enabling resources, and data sharing”.
